THE PROFESSIONAL HOUSING REHABILITATION ASSOCIATION of

NORTH CAROLINA

PHRANC members have the opportunity every year to compete for the honor of being designated a Certified Rehabilitation Specialist, or even a Master Rehabilitation Specialist.  Either designation comes with a framed certificate and the recognition by this association that you are among the best in the bus.  That's why many PHRANC members work years to successfully complete the exam, which measures your accumulated knowledge of 10 subject modules: (1) Codes and Standards, (2) Property Inspections, (3) Work Write-ups, (4) Cost Estimating, (5) Project Management, (6) Plumbing, (7) Heating and Air Conditioning, (8) Electrical, (9) Hazmat Mitigation, and (10)  Building Structure & Science.

Candidates for certification may take the entire 10-module exam or retest on remaining modules.  For more information about the exam go to:

phranc.org/CRS-Exam

Being a member of PHRANC and being current on your dues are the only eligibility requirements for taking the full exam.

Bring a calculator, 2 pens and the confidence that you belong among the top Rehabilitation Specialists in the state.  We'll all be pulling for you!

TRACK 1  DAYS 1 AND 2     HOUSING INSPECTION

On-Site Field Inspection Training

This training will be an on-site training where we will be investigating a house for deficiencies as related to standards for various programs.  It will be a comprehensive examination of all the systems within and around the structure to develop a scope of work.  This training will provide a standard systematic approach to what to inspect, how to inspect, what order to inspect, and note taking on deficiencies found.  How to take notes, what kind of checklist to use, and how to take pictures will be covered.  Wednesday and Thursday will have four (4) sessions for different attendees.  Friday morning, we will go over the scope of work created for this house with everyone that has taken one of the on-site sessions.

There will be four (4) different training sessions for this class, with only seven (7) attendees allowed in each class.  You will be able to select the date and time of your desired option on the registration page.  Once a class fills with seven (7) people, that class will be closed.  Register as soon as you can.

TRACK 2 DAYS 1 AND 2           RADON TESTING PROCEDURES/TECHNIQUES

Radon Testing Procedures, and Mitigation Technique for Slab, Crawl Space, and Basement

Radon is a silent, invisible threat to indoor air quality. This one-day session offers a comprehensive look at how radon gets into buildings, the process of radon testing and mitigation, and the latest best practices and techniques for homes with the three most common foundation types: basements, slab-on-grade, and crawlspaces.

TRACK 3 DAYS 1 AND 2

Combustion Awareness - Two sessions (same class)

This session provides a comprehensive overview of residential combustion appliance safety inspections, with a focus on Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) testing. Participants will learn how to identify and mitigate risks associated with gas and oil-fired appliances, such as furnaces, and water heaters. Key inspection protocols include visual assessments, carbon monoxide testing, and spillage checks, alongside step-by-step guidance on conducting CAZ testing to evaluate depressurization and backdrafting risks and ensure proper venting.

The Metrics of Moisture - TWO sessions (same class)

This session will explore the critical issue of moisture transfer in buildings, a key factor in building durability, energy efficiency, and occupant health. Effective moisture control is essential to prevent issues such as mold growth, rot, and material degradation. Understanding how moisture gets into the building enclosure lends to a practical understanding of the importance of three core building science components: air sealing, insulation, and mechanical ventilation.
